Asparagus is grown in abundance in Switzerland and is considered a local delicacy. It’s best eaten in season which is end of April to early June.
Backerei KULT is a very old bakery, opened first in the 1700s and boasts a wood burning oven and a long queue to get in!
The Fünfschilling is a restaurant on a vineyard that is tucked away in Fischingen and small village near Binzen in Germany that is around 25 mins drive from Basel.  Fünfschilling is a great place to take the entire family to have an inexpensive family meal, to buy reasonably priced wine, spirits and visit their farm shop that is packed full of seasonal fruit and vegetables and other tasty treats. They also have a wonderful playground for kids and some really yummy cakes.
The farm at Obere Wanne in Liestal has quite the offer with a self pick flower paradise, a maize maze and kürbisland or pumpkin land that opens Sept-Oct every year. Â
It was a warm sunny day today so, I headed to Niederbipp in Canton Solothurn, a region I used to live in. I wanted to go foraging in the woods with the hope that I could also pick some Elderflower. Why? These beautiful delicate flowers are packed with fragrant yellow pollen that makes the most delicious summer cordial.
Rhine swimming is on of the best ways to appreciate Basel. To be immersed in the water of the Rhine on a hot summer days is just fabulous, what better way to travel through the heart of Basel!
