12 gift ideas

Last minute Christmas shopping?  Here’s my 12 gifts of Christmas 2020 to inspire you…happy shopping online or otherwise.

Vouchers - Pro-innerstadt Bon

Vouchers or Gutschein’s for your favourite stores, salons, restaurants and bars.  Making an investment in a gutschein now may keep your favourite hair dresser or restaurant in business in 2021.  Every store offers some sort of voucher, email or ring your favourite business and they can send your voucher in the post or you can collect it.

Pro-innerstadt Bon is a voucher system supported by businesses in the Basel Live club (verien).  The vouchers can be bought in many stores, I get mine in Globus and they can be exchanged for goods in hundreds of places in town to buy everything from shoes to books to haircuts.  Click here to order online or to find out more.

Organic vegetable boxes

Organic vegetable boxes from Birsmatthof – weekly regional vegetables, picked up at local market during the week.  The weekly boxes cost approximately 20 CHF for 2 people.  Click here to order your vegetable box.

Recipe books from our local chefs

Learning the recipes of our regions famous chefs – Tanja Grandis has a new vegetarian cook book that can help you get a taste of the Stucki restaurant at home.  Peter Knochel from the Cheval Blanc at the Les Trois Rois.  Both at Bidder and Tanner.

There are so many great chocolate and leckerly options in Basel here’s a few links to my favorite store online shops.   Sprungli, Jakobs Basler Leckerly, Confiserie Bachmann.

Swiss Photo Club courses

The Swiss Photoclub offer photography courses though out the year plus they offer vouchers that can pay or part pay courses.  Click here to go to the Swiss Photo Club’s website.

Freitag bag

A Freitag bag the ultimate up cycled gift – the bags are made from old tarpoline and so they are hard wearing, in funky bright colours and have a wonderful grunginess to them.  Very cool indeed but quite pricey approx 300 CHF per bag.

Swiss pen knife or scissors

Swiss pen knife or scissors – I can’t recommend enough a visit to the oldest but most wonderful Swiss knife and scissors shop on Spalenberg.

Eat take-away stay healthy

It goes without saying that eating Takeaway, buying vouchers from restaurants and bars, enjoying meals in a box for Christmas and pumping your Christmas with restaurant or catering goodie boxes is a way of easing the crisis in our catering industry.  Bisskid Catering, Bierrevier, Kitchen Brew, Matt&Elly are just some of the companies offering Christmas in a box.
