Polish pottery my new addiction

Neuweg 11, Maisprach, 4464

Karim and Martha have long been fans of hand painted, polish pottery so much so, that they set up a beautiful little Polish pottery shop at the side of Martha’s home in Maisprach, Basel-land.

The stoneware is handcrafted and hand decorated by artists using small sponges to stamp each pattern and colour individually. There are a range of standard pieces like bowls, cups and a plates plus a selection very cute ovenware that I imagine, go from the oven to table very nicely.

I particularly liked the scent diffusers so I bought one as well as some small heart shaped dishes that I will use to store a squeezed out tea bag on or some antipasti to be served with a prosecco. The most practical purchase was a set of 6 breakfast bowls, all different in designs but all matching perfectly, they will be pride of place on my breakfast table. The bowls were 15 CHF each.

Nearly all of the pottery has a blue edge so that is can be mixed and matched together. They are microwave, dishwasher and oven safe and they are decorated with lead and cadmium free paint.

Location & transport

I drove to meet with Martha at the Polish pottery however, I could have taken the train from Basel to Rheinfelden then, the bus 100, the journey by public transport should take about 30 mins. Go with time to spare, as it was hard to find the shop at first.

The pottery has two open days per year otherwise, they are open by appointment. Contact them on FacebookInstagram or through their website.
