Whisky at Pot Still Bar

Kohlenberg 11, Basel 4051

Pot Still Bar is Basel’s whisky bar, that can be found in a cellar at the foot of Kohlenberg, near the number 3 tram stop on Barfüsserplatz.

This curious gem of a whisky bar, is for those of you who want to relax on studded leather, English style sofas and be guided by the bar staff to find your favourite whisky or to discover the very newest releases they offer. Pot Still Bar has one of Basel’s biggest selections of whisky to choose from the picture below doesn’t do the selection justice.

The bar with over 150 whiskies some of which you won’t be able to get anywhere else in Basel.

Want a cigar to go with your whisky? Not a problem, there is a good selection of cigars on offer too which can be smoked outside the bar at the moment. Their manager told me they hope to re-open the fumoir when next permissable by the government.

This is the bar for night owls, as it is open until 4:00 am, there are few places you can drink in this late in Basel.

I asked what was their latest whisky find and Daniel or ‘Hinz’ gave me the inside scoop on the new Ardberg Blaaaack the latest committee release from the Islay Whisky Festival. This Whisky is a single malt that has been finished in a Pinot Noir cask from New Zealand. It lives up to it’s name as it’s very dark in colour with lots of peat, dark chocolate and caramel flavours.
